Newcastle-bronchitis Vaccine

B1 Type, Lasota Strain, Mass. Type

Live Virus

For Veterinary Use Only

Directions For Use

Recommendations For Use

This product is manufactured from SPF (Specific Pathogen Free) eggs and is a combination live virus vaccine of chicken embryo origin for initial vaccination and revaccination of chickens as an aid in the prevention of infectious bronchitis, Mass. type and Newcastle disease.

The virus strains in this product are the Massachusetts type, Holland strain-high egg passages of bronchitis virus and the B1 type, LaSota strain of Newcastle disease virus. This product is recommended for initial intraocular vaccination of chickens at two weeks of age and initial aerosol vaccination of chickens at six weeks of age and initial water vaccination of chickens at five weeks of age.

Parental immunity and immunological incompetence are major factors in preventing young chickens from developing immunity. The duration of immunity resulting from vaccination is also directly related to the age of the chickens and their susceptibility.

The most satisfactory vaccination schedule may vary from one area to another, depending on such factors as the incidence of disease and concentration of poultry flocks. The following vaccination schedule would be applicable to most areas but may be tailored to local conditions.

Preparation Of Vaccine For Intranasal And Intraocular Use

1000 Doses - Rehydrate to 30 ml

Remove aluminum overseal and stopper from the vaccine bottle and pour part of the diluent into the bottle. Shake well and pour the vaccine back into the remaining diluent and place the dropper tip on the diluent bottle. The vaccine is now ready for intranasal and intraocular use.

Method Of Vaccination

The vaccine may be administered by way of the nostril (intranasal) or the eye (intraocular). When the vaccine is administered by the way of the nostril, the chick's beak is held shut, a finger is placed over one nostril and a drop of vaccine from the special applicator is dropped into the other nostril.

When used intraocularly, birds should be held on their side and one drop of the mixed vaccine should be allowed to fall into the open eye.

Birds should be held until the drop of vaccine disappears. Care must be taken to prevent injury to the cornea of the eye with the dropper tip.

Preparation Of Vaccine And Method Of Vaccination For Coarse Spray Use

1000, 2000, 2500, 5000, 10 000, 20 000, 25 000 Doses

Rehydrate with cool distilled water in an amount sufficient to vaccinate the required number of birds according to the directions of the spray cabinet or field spray manufacturer. Field spray application should be used only in houses that can be tightly closed. Close all windows, doors, ventilators, etc. and turn off fans. Spray each 1000 doses of vaccine directly into the faces of 1,000 birds. Leave house closed for at least 15 minutes after spraying. Always use eye goggles and a respirator.

Preparation Of Vaccine For Drinking Water Use

1000, 2000, 2500, 5000, 10 000, 20 000, 25 000 Doses

Remove the aluminum overseal and stopper and add clean non-sanitized water to the vaccine vial. Replace the stopper and shake well. Pour the contents into a container of non-sanitized water. Shake well and dilute the vaccine as outlined in the chart below. A dried skim milk powder should be added at the rate of 8.0 grams per gallon of water to the water used for the final dilution.

Method Of Vaccination

Withhold all medication and disinfectants from the drinking water 24 hours before and 24 hours after vaccination. Rinse waterers with clean non-sanitized water and remove all water from chicks for at least two hours prior to vaccination. Provide adequate space so that at least two-thirds of the birds can drink at one time. Add mixture to water as per following chart:
