Applies to typhoid vaccine, live: oral delayed release capsule
You should not receive a booster dose if you had a life-threatening allergic reaction after taking a typhoid vaccine capsule.
Becoming infected with typhoid fever is much more dangerous to your health than receiving this vaccine. However, like any medicine, this vaccine can cause side effects but the risk of serious side effects is extremely low.
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction while taking typhoid vaccine, live (the active ingredient contained in Vivotif Berna Vaccine) hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Less serious side effects include:

low fever;

headache;
-
nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain; or
-
mild skin rash.

General
Of the side effects reported during clinical trials, only nausea occurred at a statistically greater frequency with the oral vaccine than with placebo.
Gastrointestinal
Gastrointestinal side effects have included abdominal pain (6.4%), nausea (5.8%), diarrhea (2.9%), and vomiting (1.5%).
Other
Other side effects have included headache (4.8%) and fever (3.3%).
Dermatologic
Dermatologic side effects have included rash (1.0%) and urticaria.
Hypersensitivity
Hypersensitivity reactions have included one case of nonfatal anaphylactic shock.
