Side Effects of TussiCaps - for the Consumer

TussiCaps Extended Release Capsules

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome when using TussiCaps Extended Release Capsules:

Constipation; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth, throat, or nose; excitement; nausea; stomach upset; thickening or mucus in nose or throat.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using TussiCaps Extended Release Capsules:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); difficulty urinating; flushing or redness of face; mental or mood changes; rapid or pounding heartbeat; severe drowsiness or dizziness; shortness of breath.

TussiCaps

Gastrointestinal Disorders

Nausea and vomiting may occur; they are more frequent in ambulatory than in recumbent patients. Prolonged administration of TussiCaps™ extended-release capsules may produce constipation.

General Disorders and Administration Site Conditions

Death

Nervous System Disorders

Sedation, drowsiness, mental clouding, lethargy, impairment of mental and physical performance, anxiety, fear, dysphoria, euphoria, dizziness, psychic dependence, mood changes.

Renal and Urinary Disorders

Ureteral spasm, spasm of vesical sphincters, and urinary retention have been reported with opiates.

Respiratory, Thoracic and Mediastinal Disorders

Dryness of the pharynx, occasional tightness of the chest, and respiratory depression.

TussiCaps™ extended-release capsules may produce dose-related respiratory depression by acting directly on brain stem respiratory centers. Use of TussiCaps™ extended-release capsules in children less than 6 years of age has been associated with fatal respiratory depression. Overdose with TussiCaps™ extended-release capsules in children 6 years of age and older, in adolescents, and in adults has been associated with fatal respiratory depression.

Skin and Subcutaneous Tissue Disorders

Rash, pruritus.

Dermatologic side effects have included rash and pruritus.

Genitourinary

Genitourinary side effects have included ureteral spasm, spasm of versicle sphincters, and urinary retention.

Respiratory

Respiratory side effects have included respiratory depression, dryness of the pharynx, and occasional tightness of the chest.

General

General side effects have included impairment of physical performance.
