Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction while taking citric acid / potassium citrate / sodium citrate: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

  • swelling, rapid weight gain;

  • numbness or tingly feeling in your hands or feet, or around your mouth;

  • muscle twitching or pain, leg pain or cramps;

  • fast, slow, or uneven heart rate;

  • unusual weakness, rapid and shallow breathing, dizziness, confusion, or mood changes;

  • feeling restless, nervous, or irritable;

  • black, bloody, or tarry stools;

  • coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds;

  • severe stomach pain, ongoing diarrhea or vomiting; or

  • seizure (convulsions).

Less serious side effects of citric acid / potassium citrate / sodium citrate may include:

  • nausea, or vomiting, stomach pain;

  • mild or occasional diarrhea; or

  • mild stomach pain.
