For the Consumer

Applies to chlorcyclizine / codeine / pseudoephedrine: oral liquid

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction while taking chlorcyclizine / codeine / pseudoephedrine: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop taking the medication and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

  • fast or pounding heartbeats;

  • confusion, hallucinations, unusual thoughts or behavior;

  • severe dizziness, anxiety, restless feeling, or nervousness;

  • urinating less than usual or not at all;

  • easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness, fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms; or

  • dangerously high blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, buzzing in your ears, anxiety, chest pain, shortness of breath, uneven heartbeats, seizure).

Less serious side effects of chlorcyclizine / codeine / pseudoephedrine may include:

  • dizziness, drowsiness, problems with memory or concentration;

  • dry mouth, nose, or throat, increased sweating or urination;

  • mild stomach pain, diarrhea or constipation;

  • sleep problems (insomnia);

  • blurred vision; or

  • flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling).

Applies to chlorcyclizine / codeine / pseudoephedrine: oral liquid

Nervous system

Nervous system side effects have included excitability, drowsiness, nervousness, and sleeplessness.

Cardiovascular

Cardiovascular side effects have included hypotension and dizziness.

Dermatologic

Dermatologic side effects including rashes, severe scarlatiniform eruptions, and generalized dermatitis have been reported rarely.

Gastrointestinal

Gastrointestinal side effects including nausea, vomiting, and constipation have been reported frequently. Severe constipation and ileus resulting in colonic perforation have also been reported. Four cases of acute pancreatitis have been reported.

Genitourinary

Genitourinary side effects including urinary retention have been reported.

Ocular

Ocular side effects including a temporary 26% decrease in pupil diameter following the administration of intravenous codeine have been reported.

Other

Other side effects including withdrawal symptoms after either abrupt cessation or fast tapering of narcotic analgesics have been reported. These withdrawal symptoms have included agitation, restlessness, anxiety, insomnia, tremor, abdominal cramps, blurred vision, vomiting, and sweating.
