Applies to magaldrate / simethicone: suspension

Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Constipation; diarrhea; intestinal pain.

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); black, tarry stools; loss of appetite; muscle weakness; nausea; slow reflexes; vomiting; vomit that looks like coffee grounds.

For Healthcare Professionals

Applies to magaldrate / simethicone: oral suspension, oral tablet chewable

Musculoskeletal

Musculoskeletal side effects including osteomalacia, bone pain, and muscular weakness have been reported with the use of magaldrate.

Other

Other side effects have been reported with the use of magaldrate including malaise, decreased fluoride absorption, milk-alkali syndrome, and aluminum accumulation in serum, bone and the CNS.

Nervous system

Nervous system side effects including neurotoxicity and encephalopathy have been reported with the use of magaldrate.

Gastrointestinal

Gastrointestinal side effects including rebound hyperacidity, diarrhea, intestinal obstruction, and constipation have been reported with the use of magaldrate.

General

Simethicone has no known side effects.
