As well as its needed effects, glycopyrrolate (the active ingredient contained in Robinul Forte) may cause unwanted side effects that require medical attention.
If any of the following side effects occur while taking glycopyrrolate, check with your doctor immediately:More common
- Body aches or pain
- decrease in the frequency of urination
- decrease in urine volume
- difficulty in passing urine (dribbling)
- difficulty with breathing
- ear congestion
- feeling of warmth
- loss of voice
- nasal congestion
- painful urination
- redness of the face, neck, arms, and occasionally, upper chest
- runny nose
- sore throat
- unusual tiredness or weakness
- Abdominal or stomach discomfort or pain
- abdominal or stomach distension
- chest pain
- dry heaves
- dry mouth
- increase in heart rate
- pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
- rapid breathing
- shortness of breath or troubled breathing
- stuffy nose
- sunken eyes
- tightness in the chest
- wrinkled skin
If any of the following symptoms of overdose occur while taking glycopyrrolate, get emergency help immediately:
- low blood pressure
- muscle weakness
- trouble breathing
Some glycopyrrolate side effects may not need any medical attention. As your body gets used to the medicine these side effects may disappear. Your health care professional may be able to help you prevent or reduce these side effects, but do check with them if any of the following side effects continue, or if you are concerned about them:Less common
- Altered mood
- attack, assault, or force
- change in taste
- chapped lips
- dry skin
- dry tongue
- excess air or gas in the stomach or intestines
- full feeling
- irregular heartbeats
- loss of taste
- paleness of the skin
- passing gas
- trouble with sleeping
- uncontrolled eye movements
For Healthcare Professionals
Applies to glycopyrrolate: injectable solution, oral solution, oral tablet
Nervous system side effects have included headache, nervousness, drowsiness, dizziness, insomnia, and mental confusion. The elderly appear to be more prone to the anticholinergic effects of glycopyrrolate (the active ingredient contained in Robinul Forte) on the CNS. Seizures have been reported from postmarketing experience.
Cardiovascular side effects have included tachycardia and palpitations. In addition, cardiac arrhythmias, cardiac arrest, hypertension, and hypotension have been reported from postmarketing experience.
Gastrointestinal side effects have included dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, constipation, and feeling bloated.
Genitourinary side effects have included urinary hesitancy, urinary retention, and impotence.
Ocular side effects have included blurred vision, increased ocular tension, cycloplegia, and dilatation of the pupil.
Endocrine side effects have included suppression of lactation.
Dermatologic side effects have included dry mucous membranes and decreased sweating.
General side effects have included weakness, hyperpyrexia, and a loss of taste.
Hypersensitivity side effects have included urticaria and other dermal manifestations.
Immunologic side effects have included anaphylaxis.
Local side effects have included pruritus, edema, erythema, and pain at the injection site.
Respiratory side effects have included nasal congestion, nasal dryness, and sinusitis.
