Pediatex-DM Side Effects

Generic name: carbinoxamine / dextromethorphan / pseudoephedrine

For the Consumer

Applies to carbinoxamine / dextromethorphan / pseudoephedrine: oral liquid, oral suspension extended release, oral syrup

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using this medication and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

  • feeling light-headed, fainting;

  • urinating less than usual or not at all;

  • wheezing, tightness in your chest;

  • severe dizziness, anxiety, restless feeling, or nervousness;

  • easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness, fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms; or

  • increased blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, trouble concentrating, chest pain, numbness, seizure).

Less serious side effects of carbinoxamine / dextromethorphan / pseudoephedrine may include:

  • drowsiness, dizziness;

  • lack of coordination;

  • upset stomach;

  • stuffy nose, chest congestion;

  • sleep problems (insomnia);

  • feeling restless or excited (especially in children);

  • dry mouth or nose; or

  • blurred vision.

Cardiovascular

Cardiovascular side effects have included cardiac arrhythmias, increased heart rate or blood pressure.

Gastrointestinal

Gastrointestinal side effects have included vomiting, diarrhea, dry mouth, nausea, anorexia, and heartburn.

Nervous system

Nervous system side effects have included sedation, dizziness, headache, nervousness, convulsions, central nervous system stimulation, insomnia, hallucinations, tremors and drowsiness.

Ocular

Ocular side effects have included diplopia.

Genitourinary

Genitourinary side effects have included polyuria and dysuria.

Respiratory

Respiratory side effects have included respiratory difficulty.

General

General side effects have included pallor and weakness.
