Meni-D Side Effects

Generic name: meclizine

Applies to meclizine: oral tablet, oral tablet chewable

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction while taking meclizine (the active ingredient contained in Meni-D) hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Common side effects may include:

  • headache;

  • vomiting;

  • dry mouth;

  • tired feeling; or

  • drowsiness.

For Healthcare Professionals

Applies to meclizine: compounding powder, oral tablet, oral tablet chewable

Nervous system

Nervous system (CNS) side effects have included headache, drowsiness and sedation. Motor skills may be impaired.

With continued therapy, sedation due to meclizine diminishes.

An elderly woman suffered from memory loss, disorientation, paranoia, and agitation during treatment with meclizine over approximately 3 years. These symptoms returned on rechallenge.

Gastrointestinal

Gastrointestinal side effects have included nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, and constipation.

Ocular

Ocular side effects have included blurred vision, diplopia, and dry eyes.

Genitourinary

Genitourinary side effects have included urinary retention and dysuria.

Hypersensitivity

Anaphylactoid reactions have been reported.

Other

Fatigue has been reported.
