Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Mafenide Cream:
Blistering, burning sensation, itching, redness, or pain at the application site.
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); bleeding of the skin; dark urine; fast or irregular heartbeat; rapid breathing; softening or thinning of the skin; unusual tiredness or weakness; yellowing of the skin or eyes.

Dermatologic side effects most frequently reported with the use of mafenide topical have included pain or burning on application. Excoriation of new skin and bleeding have rarely occurred.
Hypersensitivity reactions have included rash, itching, facial edema, swelling, hives, blisters, erythema, and eosinophilia.
Respiratory side effects have included tachypnea or hyperventilation and decreases in pCO2.
Metabolic side effects have included acidosis and increases in serum chloride.
Gastrointestinal side effects resulting from the accidental ingestion of mafenide topical have included diarrhea.Top
