Metabolic
Metabolic side effects have included hypoglycemia and weight gain.
Local
Local side effects have included lipodystrophy, redness, pain, itching, hives, swelling, and inflammation at the injection site.
Hypersensitivity
Hypersensitivity side effects have included systemic or general allergy to insulin manifesting as rash (including pruritus) over the whole body, shortness of breath, wheezing, reduction in blood pressure, rapid pulse, or sweating. Severe cases of generalized allergy, including anaphylactic reactions, may be life threatening.
Other
Other side effects reported in a clinical study of both adults and children with type 1 diabetes have included headache, upper respiratory tract infection, pharyngitis, back pain, bronchitis, gastroenteritis, influenza-like illness, abdominal pain, pyrexia, cough, viral infection, nausea, rhinitis, and vomiting.
