Dibucaine Ointment
All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. When used in small doses, no COMMON side effects have been reported with Dibucaine Ointment. Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Dibucaine Ointment:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); bleeding at the application site; new or worsening redness, swelling, irritation, or pain at the application site.

General
General side effects have included methemoglobinemia, irregular heartbeats, seizures, coma, respiratory depression, and death. Children may be at an increased risk for adverse effects, as well as those who apply large amounts of anesthetics (or cover large areas of skin), leave these products on for prolonged periods, or cover with occlusive dressings after application.
