Bontril SR Sustained-Release Capsules

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome when using Bontril SR Sustained-Release Capsules:

Constipation; diarrhea; dizziness; dry mouth; flushing; headache; nausea; overstimulation; restlessness; trouble sleeping.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Bontril SR Sustained-Release Capsules:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); blurred vision; changes in sex drive; chest, jaw, or arm pain; fast or irregular heartbeat; frequent urination or trouble urinating; hallucinations; mental or mood changes; seizures; severe or persistent headache or dizziness; shortness of breath; stomach pain; sudden, severe nausea or vomiting; tremor; unusual sweating.

Side Effects by Body System - for Healthcare Professionals

Applies to: oral capsule, extended release; oral tablet

Cardiovascular

Cardiovascular side effects including palpitation, tachycardia, and elevation of blood pressure have been reported. A case of dilated cardiomyopathy has been associated with chronic use of phendimetrazine.

Nervous system

Nervous system side effects including overstimulation, restlessness, dizziness, insomnia, tremor, and headache have been reported. Psychotic episodes (at recommended doses), agitation, flushing, and sweating have been reported rarely.

Gastrointestinal

Gastrointestinal side effects including dryness of mouth, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, and stomach pain have been reported.

Genitourinary

Genitourinary side effects including changes in libido, urinary frequency, and dysuria have been reported.

Ocular

Ocular side effects including blurring of vision have been reported.
