Side Effects of Alamast - for the Consumer

Alamast

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome when using Alamast:

Burning sensation in the eye; dry eyes; eye discomfort; headache; runny nose; sneezing.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Alamast:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); fever.

Alamast Side Effects - for the Professional

Alamast

In clinical studies lasting up to 17 weeks with Alamast® ophthalmic solution, headache, rhinitis, and cold/flu symptoms were reported at an incidence of 10-25%. The occurrence of these side effects was generally mild. Some of these events were similar to the underlying ocular disease being studied.

The following ocular and non-ocular adverse reactions were reported at an incidence of less than 5%:

Ocular: burning, dry eye, foreign body sensation, and ocular discomfort.

Non-Ocular: allergy, back pain, bronchitis, cough, dysmenorrhea, fever, sinusitis, and sneezing/nasal congestion.

Side Effects by Body System

Respiratory

Respiratory side effects have included rhinitis and cold or flu symptoms in 10% to 25% of patients. Less common side effects that have occurred in less than 5% of patients have included bronchitis, cough, sinusitis, sneezing, and nasal congestion.

Nervous system

Nervous system side effects have included headache in 10% to 25% of patients.

Ocular

Ocular side effects have included burning, dry eye, foreign body sensation, and ocular discomfort in less than 5% of patients.

Hypersensitivity

Hypersensitivity reactions have been reported in less than 5% of patients.

Genitourinary

Genitourinary side effects have included dysmenorrhea (less than 5%).

Musculoskeletal

Musculoskeletal side effects have included backache in less than 5% of patients.
