Doxercalciferol Pregnancy Warnings
Doxercalciferol has been assigned to pregnancy category B by the FDA. Reproductive animal studies report that neither dosages 25 times (20 mcg/kg/day) the maximum recommended human dose (MRHD), nor doses less than the MRHD (based on BSA) of 60 mcg/week, reveal evidence of teratogenicity or fetotoxicity. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Doxercalciferol should be used during pregnancy only when the benefit outweighs the risk.
Doxercalciferol Breastfeeding Warnings
There are no data on the excretion of doxercalciferol into human milk. Other vitamin D derivatives are excreted into human milk. The manufacturer recommends that due to the potential for serious adverse reactions in nursing infants, a decision should be made to discontinue nursing or discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.
