Why is Posaconazole prescribed?

Noxafil is used for treating fungal infections caused by Aspergillus or Candida. It is approved for use in people 13 years of age and older who are severely immunocompromised (for example, a fungal infection due to a side effect of chemotherapy).

How should you take Posaconazole?

Shake Noxafil well before taking it. Take each dose of Noxafil oral suspension with a full meal or liquid nutritional supplement. If you cannot eat a full meal or a nutritional supplement, a different type of antifungal therapy should be considered.

Do not take Noxafil if you are allergic to any of its ingredients, or if you are taking any of the following drugs: ergot alkaloids, terfenadine, astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, halofantrine, or quinidine.

While taking Noxafil, avoid becoming pregnant or breastfeeding.

Tell your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking before beginning treatment with Noxafil. Also, talk to your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have liver problems.
