Why is Nevanac prescribed?

Nevanac is an ophthalmic suspension used to treat the pain and inflammation of cataract surgery.

Nevanac, like other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), may delay the healing process, or even increase bleeding.

How should you take Nevanac?

Shake the bottle well; apply one drop to each affected eye.

What side effects may occur?

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Nevanac.

  Crusting of the eye lid, headache, high blood pressure, light sensitivity, nausea, pain in the eye, sinus infection, sticky sensation in the eye, tearing, vomiting

Do not take Nevanac if you are allergic to any of its ingredients, or have an allergy to any other type of anti-inflammatory.

Special warnings about Nevanac

Avoid applying Nevanac with contact lenses in your eyes.

Tell your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking to avoid a potential interaction with Nevanac. Also, discuss your complete medical history with your doctor.

Possible food and drug interactions when taking Nevanac

If Nevanac is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. Nevanac may be used with other ophthalmic medicines; talk to your doctor about the medications you are on to make sure they are compatible with Nevanac.

Special information if you are pregnant or breastfeeding

The effects of Nevanac during pregnancy and breastfeeding are unknown. Talk with your doctor before taking Nevanac if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

Recommended dosage for Nevanac

ADULTS

The usual dose of Nevanac is one drop in the affected eye, 3 times per day. Treatment with Nevanac should begin the day before cataract surgery and be continued until 2 weeks after surgery.

Overdosage

Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.
