Rugby Laboratories to launch Watson's generic Nicorette equivalent

CORONA, CA., Aug 14, 2002 --Watson Pharmaceuticals announced that its subsidiary, Rugby Laboratories, has expanded its line of over-the-counter products to include Watson's nicotine polacrilex gum, 2mg and 4mg.

Watson's nicotine gum is the generic equivalent to Glaxo SmithKline Consumer Healthcare's Nicorette gum, which is used as an aid to smoking cessation. Final launch preparations are currently underway and the company expects the product to be available in pharmacies within the next few weeks.

"We are pleased that we have the opportunity to offer our nicotine gum through Rugby Labs' line of products," said Joe Papa, Watson's Chief Operating Officer. "Based on strong demand for our nicotine gum, we have increased our production capacity at our Copiague, New York facility. As a result, we are now able to provide even more consumers with a viable alternative to the branded product."
