New Purdue Pharma Plant Will Create 100 Jobs in N.C.
BRIEF: New Purdue Pharma plant will create 100 jobs in Durham
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Sept. 26, 2013 (WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL) --Purdue Pharma Manufacturing LP said Wednesday it will build a new plant in Durham, creating 100 jobs and spending $59 million on capital investments over three years.
Purdue is involved in research, development, production and marketing of prescription and over-the-counter medicines and health-care products.
The plant represents the second major investment Purdue has made in North Carolina. In 2000, Purdue opened a plant in Wilson, creating 180 engineering, scientific and technical jobs.
The average annual wage for the Durham jobs will be $70,199, plus benefits. By comparison, the Durham County average annual wage is $66,602.
John Stewart, president and chief executive of Purdue, said the expansion "underscores Purdue's commitment to the Raleigh/Durham region, and solidifies the company's footprint in North Carolina."
The company has been made eligible for up to $300,000 in performance-based incentives by the One North Carolina Fund, as well as matching local incentives.
