Merck Considers Divestment of Non-Prescription Drug Arm
From M&A Navigator (January 31, 2011)
German drug and chemicals maker Merck (ETR:MRK) could offload its non-prescription pharmaceuticals unit, the company's CEO Karl-Ludwig Kley told the Financial Times on Monday.
Kley said he would not dismiss opportunities, which are economically appropriate, given that the group would not be able to invest billions in the division to double its sales.
The Consumer Health Care business booked sales of EUR346m for the first nine months of 2010. Though analysts view it is as too small, Merck has repeatedly said it would keep it.
