Advisory: Alignment, Not Timing, Key to Global/US Transitioning
TGaS® Advisors Finds Alignment, Not Timing, Key to Global/US Transitioning
East Norriton, Penn., October 16, 2013 -- Collaborative interaction between Global and US teams for commercializing and marketing new pharmaceutical products is critical to industry success. TGaS® Advisors, a benchmarking and advisory services firm and division of KnowledgePoint360®, has released “Global/US Collaboration: It’s Not the When, it’s the How,” a new Advisory Brief mapping certain factors that impact success. Contrary to expectations, the most surprising finding, according to author and Global Marketing Practice leader Steve Vitale, is that earlier transitioning is not the key driver. The data show that success is less dependent on timing than on alignment. The Brief concludes with five action steps for achieving more effective transitioning.
TGaS conducted benchmarking studies and executive interviews to develop the report with a focus on Marketing Sciences, specifically Primary Market Research, Forecasting and Competitive Intelligence, as a proxy for broader Global/US commercial team interaction. The Advisory Brief may be accessed at www.tgas.com/leadership/.
Alignment is central, according to Vitale. “The launch process presents difficult partnership issues under the best of circumstances,” he notes. “When teams unintentionally work against each other, the problem is exacerbated.” The Brief provides a checklist of questions companies can ask to gauge how well their Global/US teams are aligned and offers implementation advice, particularly important for teams that may be “literally oceans away from each other.”
The Brief also documents how teams share ownership. For example, Global teams tend to retain more overall responsibility for Competitive Intelligence than for other Marketing Sciences functions. Findings for Primary Research and Forecasting show that responsibilities are more evenly split between Global and US teams.
