What is Maalox Advanced Regular Strength (aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone)?

Aluminum and magnesium are naturally occurring minerals. Aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide are antacids.

Simethicone allows gas bubbles in the stomach and intestines to come together more easily, which allows for easier passage of gas.

The combination of aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone is used to treat heartburn, acid indigestion, upset stomach, and bloating caused by gas.

What is the most important information I should know about Maalox Advanced Regular Strength (aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone)?

You should not use aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone if you are allergic to it.

Ask a doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you have kidney disease or if you are on a low-magnesium diet.

Do not use aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone without medical advice if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Avoid taking other medicines within 2 hours before or after you take aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone. Some antacids can make it harder for your body to absorb certain medicines, especially antibiotics.

You should not use aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone if you are allergic to it.

Do not give this medicine to a child younger than 12 years old without medical advice.

How should I take Maalox Advanced Regular Strength (aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone)?

Use exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

The aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone chewable tablet must be chewed before you swallow it.

Shake the liquid form of this medicine well just before you measure a dose. Measure the liquid with a special dose measuring spoon or medicine cup, not with a regular table spoon. If you do not have a dose measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.

An antacid is usually taken only for a short time until your symptoms clear up. Do not take aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone for longer than 2 weeks in a row without medical advice. Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, or if they get worse while using aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone.

Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Do not allow the liquid form of this medicine to freeze.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Since aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone is taken as needed, you may not be on a dosing schedule. If you are taking the medication regularly, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.

Overdose symptoms may include bone pain, muscle weakness, changes in your mental state, confusion, pale skin, feeling light-headed or short of breath, rapid heart rate, or seizure.

What should I avoid while taking Maalox Advanced Regular Strength (aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone)?

Maalox Advanced Regular Strength (aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone) side effects
