What is Levaquin (Leviquin)?

Levaquin (Leviquin) belongs to a group of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. Levaquin (Leviquin) fights infections in the body caused by certain bacteria.

Levaquin (Leviquin)is used to treat bacterial infections that cause bronchitis, pneumonia, chlamydia, gonorrhea, skin infections, urinary tract infections, acute pyelonephritis and infections of the prostate. Levaquin (Leviquin) may also be used to prevent or slow anthrax after exposure.

You should not take Levaquin (Leviquin) if you have ever had a severe allergic reaction to any of the quinolones antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin. Serious and occasionally fatal allergic reactions have been reported in patients receiving therapy with quinolones, including Levaquin (Leviquin).

Severe hepatotoxicity (including acute hepatitis and fatal events) not associated with hypersensitivity has also been reported with Levaquin (Leviquin) use. Discontinue immediately if signs and symptoms of hepatitis develop.
