Valacyclovir is used in the treatment of herpes simplex, suppression; cold sores; herpes simplex, mucocutaneous/immunocompetent host; herpes simplex, mucocutaneous/immunocompromised host; cytomegalovirus infection (and more), and belongs to the drug class purine nucleosides. There is no proven risk in humans during pregnancy. Valacyclovir 1 gram is not subject to the Controlled Substances Act.
