Cainine pain

My 8 year old cocker spaniel is in pain. HELP!!! He was diagnosed with left and right hip dysplasa and left knee osteoarthritis. He is taking a joint medication and was on rimadyl. Now the vet has put him on prevacox (anti inflammatory) and Tramadol. My poor baby seems better in the daytime. He heavily pants and cries at night, keeping us awake. I hate to have my pet in pain. Any suggestions? I do put the heating pad on him too.
