Default small blue/white capsule...20mg and UAB 580 markings

Does anyone know what this is? My stepson is taking it for ADHD according to his mother. She just sent a bag of pills for the week, no bottle, no instructions.

Do you mean UCB 580 20mg? It is Metadate CD extended release capsules (methylphenidate), a stimulant. It can improve attention span, concentration, and emotional control, and reduce restless or overactive behavior. This medicine treats attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

I can't tell you the dosage.

yes I was just about to edit my post to fix it to say UCB 580. He is supposed to take it every morning. He says his mom opens it and lets him swallow the stuff inside. Do you know if this should be done? My own son takes meds for ADHD and I know his doctor said not to open the capsules and to take it whole. It's a tiny little pill and I see no reason why he should have trouble swallowing it, I've seen him swallow food bigger than this.

Sounds fishy, worth following up on! That pill is extended release, all ER's (or CR's) are to be swallowed whole.
I got this info from a pharmacy site
http://www.drugstore.com/pharmacy/pr...302&trx=1Z5006

"Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. An additional patient information leaflet is available with this medicine. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. TAKE THIS MEDICINE by mouth in the morning unless otherwise directed by your doctor. SWALLOW WHOLE with a full glass of liquid (such as water, milk, or juice). Do NOT break, crush, or chew before swallowing. This medicine may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C), away from heat, moisture, and light. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once."

Here's the Metadate CD monograph

Thank you....that's what I thought but just wanted to be sure. I will be giving him the pill whole and notifying his mom. Chances are she is just too ignorant to read instructions and give him the pill properly.
