I am concerned about these pills a person I know takes. They're small, black and spherical in shape. There are no markings on them. Does anyone know what they are?

Sounds like licorice, or some other kind of candy, it has to have an imprint for us to ID it.

Unfortunately there are no marks or I would have been able to do this myself with pill identifier. The concern is that this person gets really nervous and shaky when she pops these. Candy? Thanks for your serious remarks.

I was being serious, candy is often mistaken for drugs. Sphere, as in round like a marble? All Rx and OTC drugs is the US are required by law to have an identifying imprint, usually if it lacks one it is a vitamin, herbal, energy, diet, foreign, illicit or on rare occasions a specially compounded capsule.
Why not ask her what they are? Please post back what you find out.
