They are the same thing, just different dosages of the same med.
Percocet,
Endocet,
Roxicet,
Tylox, and several others, all contain the same ingredients,
Acetaminophen and
Oxycodone.
The names they are called just vary according to which company has manufactured it and some of them vary according to the dosage. Some generics will not have any of these names on them at all and will just list Acetaminophen and Oxycodone on the bottle.
The shape, color, and imprint codes on the pills will also vary according to the dosage and manufacturer. Once a med is released from its proprietary patent, then it can be made by many different pharmaceutical manufacturing companies. As per FDA regulations, every prescription drug sold in the U.S. must have a unique imprint code for identification purposes. So you will often find many pills with different imprints, shape, and colors, that are the same dosage of the same ingredients.
For instance since regular Oxycodone was released in March of 2004 for generic availability, it is now available from many different companies and all of the pills differ in some way, you might receive it called M-Oxy, Percolone, Roxifast, Roxicodone, OxyIR and several others. These are all just various names for the instant release Oxy. The same goes for the generics for
Oxycontin, you can still get it as Oxycontin (the name brand,) Oxy CR, Oxy ER, and others that are all just different names for the Extended Release 12 hour Oxy.
Anyway, if your friend is taking Percocet, then he is still taking Oxycodone, just not Oxy by itself, as it also contains Acetaminophen.
