Well there are two kinds of
Oxycodone, the one labeled
Oxycontin, or its generic equivelents are time released tablets that last 12 hours.
Regular Oxycodone, sometime referred to as Oxy IR, is an immediate release tablet, so you get all the medicine at once. These are usually taken anywhere from 4 to 8 hours apart, as per doctor's instructions, instead of at 12 hour intervals.
