Default What to do if a dose of ARVs is missed

Anyone out there with concrete information on what to do if one forgets to take her antiretrovirals at the right time? Most medicine leaflets I have seen talk say "take as soon as you remember, but if you are close to your next dose, wait for the next dose". My question is; how close is 'close to the next dose' for instance for a medicine taken every 12 hours?

If your prescription is bid (twice daily) and you missed a dose, you could take it at anytime, then every 12 hours after that. For medication that's bid, I would call close within 3 hours.
