Default Thyroid Med Titration

Hi Folks,

This is my first time using the board to post a message!

I have a question about Levothyroxin titration. I am "borderline" hypothyroid and my doc has given me a clinical trial since I have alot of the low thyroid symptoms. I also have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia.

I started taking 25mcg about a month ago and after seeing the doc in the office (with no additional blood testing), he titrated my dosage to 300mcg!!! This is the highest dosage of Levothyroxine!

I'm a bit fearful and concerned since I do have some risk factors that could interfere with this med: 40 yrs., smoker, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, family history of heart disease, mother died at 52 of heart disease.

I need an opinion from a pharmacist about the titration of the dosage- please.

When I went to the pharmacy to get the script filled, they were out of the 300mcg and gave me enough 150s to take 2 in the morning: I have been breaking the 150s in half and titrating to 75mcg. I don't want a higher dosage to be a complete shock to my body.

Thanks,
Steach
