Default SERZONE / PLS HELP!/NEED TO REPLACE!

My room mate has peripheral NEUROPATHY[u]</u> WITHOUT MUCH RELIEF.
He discontinued Serzone due to the warnings.Using both meds for treatment helped-- with the oppressive side-effects from Serzone.
He maintains Doxepin, but knows he could add a complementary drug to alleviate the pain. Could you reccommend A VIABLE Replacement, Please?
I know that requesting a "copharmacological" suggestion is risky, but
the approach would be cautious. (Low-Dose at beginning.)
Another single medication to try is a welcomed contribution.
There may be something that neither of us has yet to study.
