I have some prescriptions that have dates on them. I want to make SURE that they can still be used. One is Naproxen and the date is 2-2001; one is Docusate dated '96; and one is Lortab dated 8-2000. I have heard that they can be used much later than the dates on the bottles, but may not be as effective. My question is - could they have gone bad and possibly make a person sick? thanx, L

Best to check with the pharmacist who dispensed the pills.

It isn't wise to use any pills (that don't have an expiration date on them) past a year from the date on the pharmacy vial.

you shouldn't take any medication which is expired.
However it is not as efficient as it should be, but also its toxicity is alot more than it should be,yes it could make you sick,some out of date tablets can even kill!
