Default Long term use of Dilantin

My son is 35 years old and has been on Dilantin since he was 7, he is on other drugs for Epilpsy but has always had to take Dilantin, he is having all of the bad side effects now but he can't come off of the Dilantin. His Doctor is saying that his Ceribellem is shrinking, and only that part of his brain, could that also be a side effect of long term use of Dilantin. Please, if you can help me. Thanks....
