The antibiotics cause your body to not absorb the active ingredient in the contraceptive pills, or patches, so it makes it the same as not taking your contraceptive for the period of time you are on the antibiotic, so you can get pregnant if you do not use an alternative means of birth control.

My information is not guaranteed correct. I do not get them right all the time, but I do enjoy the hunt~

Hi,

Antibiotics kill the bacteria in your gastrointestinal tract, which play an important role on enterohepatic circulation of drugs like contraceptives. Thus administering antibiotics together with contraceptives could actually lower the blood-hormone level of the patient, which may lead to, if so unfortunately, conception.

I am taking the antibiotic Cephalexin and I am currently on the depo Provera birth control shot.My doctor told me not to worry about pregnancy but his nurse said that all antibiotics will work against birth control but I always heard that it was birth control pills.I just dont know how long I should wait!
