Question HELP! Methlphenadate HCL & ADHD Statistics of useage

I am a Pharmacy Tech doing research on the use of Methylphenidate HCL to treat ADHD in children & adults. I'd like to find info about when it was first used (I knew a child in 1963 taking it) and statistics on how many children & adults are taking the med currently. Also any info/source on drug abuse of this med by students & others. I once had a MD tell me that my child was lucky to have legal access to the med, it had helped the MD through med school! (did not go back to that MD!)
I'd really appreciate information on a good source for me to do this type of research. Thanks for your help.
