Hi pharmacists. I've been on the
duragesic patch for almost a month and a half, and when they work...they are a dream. It's a miracle for my chronic pain (although I fear the nightmare withdrawl). My main problem, from the beginning, however, has been getting them to stick. I've tried various places on the body, exfoliating, gauze tape, and finally, last week, at the suggestion of a pharmacist I bought waterproof paper tape which is OK, works better than anything else, but isn't pefect (or waterproof).
I am also a chronic sweater. I take
effexor and I am always sweating, always hot, flushed cheeks, damp skin, and I think this contributes to my patches not working.
So here's the question. My pain doctor said he totally understands and is willing to give me a prescription for three or four 'extra' patches so that I'm not left at the end of the month going into withdrawl because I've lost two or three patches over the month.
But when I go to Walgreens, my insurance counts this as a "early refill" and all these red flags go up.
Is there a way for my doctor to write the prescription to show that I'm getting this small amount as an "emergency back up"? I really don't want to be on some DEA list, nor do I want to go into withdrawl every month waiting for my next refill.
Thanks!
