Default Codeine vs propoxyphene--are they the same??

I am allergic to codeine and was prescribed generic Darvocet--propoxyphene acetamenaphin 100-650.
Can you be allergic to this if you are allergic to codeine??? Get respiratory distress from this. Was told my my pharmacist that it is NOT codeine related. I don't believe him.

It isn't the same drug. But I suppose its possible you could have a reaction to that as well.
If you are afraid you might be allergic to it, just take part of a pill and see how you react to it.
Good luck
