Default Depression in a mentally handicapped adult

My brother-in-law is mentally handicapped (60+ yrs. old, lives in a group home) and has been prescribed Seroquel (500mg), Lithium Carborate (300 mg), Lorazepam(.5mg), and Trazodone (50mg) as treatment by his internist. My husband thinks that the doctor 'knows' what he is doing. I'm wondering if there is anyone else out there who would question this level of medication being prescribed by an internist for psychological disorders. 'Normally', he is a non-stop talker . . .which can be annoying; now he sleeps all but a few hours a day, is very, very difficult to wake, and whines constantly.

The sleeping is what I encountered in the beginning of my treatment, and is the case with your brother.

If you have doubts regarding the intern's medication spree, I suggest seeing a licensed psychiatrist.

Kind Regards,

I have to agree strongly with Grendizer
in seeking a Psychiatrist. In addition to this, I have seen several people with the same dual disorders helped
greatly after seeking treatment at
a Gerentology Assessment Group-who
also specialise in Neurology.
Best of Luck to you.
