Default What more can I do to ease the pain?

My mom is in Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. She is taking both pill and liquid form Oxycodone. She is sleeping the rest of her life away. Is there anything other than the oxycodone liquid form for the breakthrough pain that won't make her so loopy? We want to enjoy the few months she has left, but all she does is sleep.

I am sorry to hear about your mom, my friend had cancer of the liver and she too slept her final time away. I dont have the answers for you...i know she needs to be with out pain...can you discuss this with her Dr?? Is she getting an at home nurse that you can talk to ? I would advise you to find a board like this that is more for cancer patients and their family....perhaps there you will find more answers...

once again...my thoughts are with you...I cannot imagine the pain your heart is in.

I dont know of any other other than perhaps a fentanyl patch?? I just wanted to say how sorry I am for you, I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Fentanyl patches, or fentanyl suckers are morphine and supposed to be GREAT for pain. I hope that helps some. Much love

So sorry to hear about your mom! The morphine pump is a good pain killer. She should actually build somewhat of a tolerence to whatever she is taking and when she does she won't sleep near as much.At least right now her pain is under control and oxycodone when taken orally is about one and half times stronger than morphine.
Another drug that is being used more and more for terminal patients is methadone. It's a great pain killer and it doesn't leave the patient all loopy.Hope this helps,my thoughts are with you....Dave

Default Thanks for all your help

My family and I want to thank ALL of you that replied to my question. I will be asking the Hospice nurses about what was suggested thru your replies. I am deeply touched by your concerns, thoughts and prayers and can only Thank You for your kindness. We have already hit the tough times since I asked the question as this disease seems to be getting more aggressive. Thank you all again and may God bless you all. Happy Holidays!
