Default Wellbutrin Bupropion- depression question

hi everyone. i'm new here and i just want to say that i'm thankful a forum like this exists.

i JUST started taking Bupropion (generic of wellbutrin) yesterday. i started with 1 100mg tablet (just for the first day) and now i'm taking 2 100mg tabs a day.

i have some questions...maybe some of you who have taken this drug might be able to help.

so, my second day is today and i feel real dizzy ...am i going to always feel like this when i'm on this med?

and my appetite has completely vanished. i forced myself to eat something this morning. is this going to happen all the time! i'm kinda excited about this side effect so i can lose weight.

but people who take anti-depressants...do they become happier instantly?

and also, i can't drink any alcohol? not even a few drinks when i go out with the girls??

thanks guys.. [:I]

the side effects should go away after a few weeks. If they do not or they worsen contact your doctor immediately.
People on antidepressants are not happy instantly! It may take up to 6 weeks to notice the difference.
Alcohol is not recommended. However, if you feel you need those few drinks out with the girls discuss this with your doctor before doing so. Good luck![]

glo, hang in there. You definitly will have some symptoms from Wellbutrin for at least 3 to 6 weeks. You also won't feel any change from the wellbutrin for at least 2 to 4 weeks. One day you will look back and say... "wow, I feel better!" It just happens like that. I've been on wellbutrin for about 15 years and I sware by it. I was also diagnosed with anxiety and bipolar... therefore I am taking Depakote and Ativan for that. NEVER give up! For those of us that have mental disfunctions... sometimes it's more than one thing that makes our problems exists!

As to the alcohol, yes, you can have a few drinks when you go out. Just don't overdo it and don't drive. SSRI antidepressants have a side effect of enhancing the effects of alcohol, so each drink you have is equivelent to having 2 or 3.

My information is not guaranteed correct. I do not get them right all the time, but I do enjoy the hunt~

Yes, what you describe is how my first few weeks on Wellbutrin SR went. The Dr raised my dose slowly to minimze some side effects. I've been on anti-depressants for about 17 years and am comfortable saying that Wellbutrin is one of the best out there.
The reason you must watch alcohol intake has something to do with the medicines side effect of lowering your seizure threshold. Ask your Dr, it should all even out. Wellbutrin SR definitely curbed my appetite for awhile, but not permanently. Of all the anti-depressants I've tried, the SR's are the ONLY one that gave me a "lift" when I took a dose. Now I take the XL's, and they are once daily. No more lift. Good Luck!

One other issue concerning this drug is the fact that depressed individuals often mix alcohol and SSRI drugs. This combination can cause severe impairing effects and create a VERY "drunk" driver.

Never drive after taking Wellbutrin and having even one drink.

Last week I switched from Zoloft to Wellbutrin XL 300mg and I had horrible side effects. Wellbutrin XL was the first antidepressant I took and had little to no help from it, I switched back to help me quit smoking, well it did help me taper down, but for 5 days I could not eat more then 2 bites of food then I felt like I had to throw up, I also couldn't sleep more then 3 hours a day, and the whole time my head was screaming in agony, my depression increased exponentially,I hurt so bad, I had the shakes, restlessness, cold and sweating, and so much fatigue it made me delusional. I felt so weak from not eating and sleeping and emotionally drained on top of it all, I felt so awful, it was one of the worst experiences in my life. Now I understand why so many people commit suicide when they take antidepressants.
Just my 2 cents.
