Hi Brian
Yikes ...I have been there...if you can hold strong a few days, you can get it all behind you...
I will put up the Thomas recipe for you...it will help...
let us know how it's going...

Talk to you soon, Melinda

THOMAS RECIPE

If you can't take time off to detox, I recommend you follow a taper regimen using your drug of choice or suitable alternate -- the slower the taper, the better.

For the Recipe, You'll need:

1. Valium (or another benzodiazepine such as Klonopin, Librium, Ativan or Xanax). Of these, Valium and Klonopin are best suited for tapering since they come in tablet form. Librium is also an excellent detox benzo, but comes in capsules, making it hard to taper the dose. Ativan or Xanax should only be used if you can't get one of the others.

2. Imodium (over the counter, any drug or grocery store).

3. L-Tyrosine (500 mg caps) from the health food store.

4. Strong wide-spectrum mineral supplement with at least 100% RDA of Zinc, Phosphorus, Copper, Magnesium and Potassium (you may not find the potassium in the same supplement).

5. Vitamin B6 caps.

6. Access to hot baths or a Jacuzzi (or hot showers if that's all that's available).

How to use the recipe:

Start the vitamin/mineral supplement right away (or the first day you can keep it down), preferably with food. Potassium early in the detox is important to help relieve RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome). Bananas are a good source of potassium if you can't find a supplement for it.

Begin your detox with regular doses of Valium (or alternate benzo). Start with a dose high enough to produce sleep. Before you use any benzo, make sure you're aware of how often it can be safely taken. Different benzos have different dosing schedules. Taper your Valium dosage down after each day. The goal is to get through day 4, after which the worst WD symptoms will subside. You shouldn't need the Valium after day 4 or 5.

During detox, hit the hot bath or Jacuzzi as often as you need to for muscle aches. Don't underestimate the effectiveness of hot soaks. Spend the entire time, if necessary, in a hot bath. This simple method will alleviate what is for many the worst opiate WD symptom.

Use the Imodium aggressively to stop the runs. Take as much as you need, as often as you need it. Don't take it, however, if you don't need it.

At the end of the fourth day, you should be waking up from the Valium and experiencing the beginnings of the opiate WD malaise. Upon rising (empty stomach), take the L-Tyrosine. Try 2000 mgs, and scale up or down, depending on how you feel. You can take up to 4,000 mgs. Take the L-Tyrosine with B6 to help absorption. Wait about one hour before eating breakfast. The L-Tyrosine will give you a surge of physical and mental energy that will help counteract the malaise. You may continue to take it each morning for as long as it helps. If you find it gives you the "coffee jitters," consider lowering the dosage or discontinuing it altogether. Occasionally, L-Tyrosine can cause the runs. Unlike the runs from opiate WD, however, this effect of L-Tyrosine is mild and normally does not return after the first hour. Lowering the dosage may help.

Continue to take the vitamin/mineral supplement with breakfast.

As soon as you can force yourself to, get some mild exercise such as walking, cycling, swimming, etc. This will be hard at first, but will make you feel considerably better.

Thomas"

Pepto is okay for upset stomach but nothing works for diarrhea like imodium AD. Go ahead and buy some, you'll be glad you did. God bless.

Congratulations for deciding to stop! It is a tough thing to do but once you put your mind to it, it can be done. Here are some things that helped me:

Vitamin B6 for energy (you will find it hard to get out of bed sometimes)
Valerian root or valium to calm the jitters (skin crawling)
Advil, hot baths, Ben Gay patches for the aches and pains (hot baths really helped!)
Advil PM for the insomnia
Highland's Leg Cramp pills for the restless leg syndrome

And most importantly, post all of your feelings! If you need to vent, hop on this forum and let it all out. The main thing that helped me was the support of these beautiful people here. I could not have done it without them!! Hang in there-it is not impossible and you will get better and better everyday.

Hi Brian
There was not a lot of people that knew what I was going thru either...
I'm proud of you for doing this .
It may be the hardest thing you will ever do in your life, but when you get done with it...you will know you could do anything ...
My life has change so much now that I'm clean...
your doing this right thinking about the future that is what got me thru it...
I was spending about 2 grand on drugs a month...
so it's nice to have money again...
next week at this time you are going to be on cloud nine...
life is good being clean...

Default I am with you Brian.

Your story sounds familiar I was a vicodin addict and at my peak I was up to 12-15 a day. I quit cold turkey as well. Feel free to read my story at Veteran Vicodin Addict I hope it helps you. Robert and melinda are great people to listen to they will help guide you through this tough time, they and everyone in here has helped me in some way this room can be a great support mechanism....we have all been there in some way.
The worst of it for me was about days 3-5 the worst thing for me were the muscle cramps and spasms. I used a muscle relaxer like flexril or robaxin to help with that and Tylenol PM to help with the sleep issues.
Please stay in contact and keep us updated on your progress.

BEST BEST WISHES WITH YOUR RECOVERY !!!!

We are here to support you !!!

Hi Brian

Thanks my day is going good, I just got home from work...so yeah...

I was wondering how you were...Im glad you got some sleep that helps a little.
It's kind of funny we all count are w/d in the hours at first, I would take it ten min at a time.then it went into hours and then days.
It will be a year for me in August and I still have to keep myself in check...
I just don't want to get caught back into that

So do you have a plan for the day, to keep your mind busy,I watched movies to try and pass the time, then I started working out that really helped me.
Try and do what ever you can to keep yourself busy.

You really sound like you have this down I'm sure things are going to go well for you...
Keep us posted on how your doing...

Talking Keep Busy

Sound like you have a good attitude about this...that is a good thing. If the w/d's get worse keeping busy helps. Go out walk anything to keep your mind off the symptoms.
Enjoy your day today and keep us posted.
