Hey there Pete,

I am AFSGTSAM (Eric) feel free to read my thread at Veteran Vicodin Addict. I was in the same boat as you. At my peak I was up to 12-15 vicodin a day sometimes 5 at a time just to keep the buzz going. Quitting will be tough but it sounds like you have a great attitude about it, you can and will make it. That fog will start to clear in a few days and you will stand there wondering why you did the vic in the first place. Keep us posted on your w/d's and best wishes in your recover.
Stay strong it is worth it !!

Hey Eric, Thanks for the support.

Update: 48 Hours into recovery.

Wow, I actually made it through a work day! And by that I mean I made it through a work day without "dieing", so to speak. You know, How during your addiction you wonder "How in the heck you could make it through the day without this?" Well I'm still kicking!

And for the first time in a year and a half, I went to and from work without buying! It was sooo hard not to get some, But everytime I got negative thoughts in my head, I cussed MYSELF out! Lol!

I am so happy about this, I want to just jump up in the air and yell!

I am still going through W/D, I may not sound like I am by the attitude in which I'm typing, But I am. The "bathroom visits" started this morning, but one pop of an immodium and that problem was solved. The ache's are still here, But I'm fighting and ignoring them. Gotta stay strong.

All in all, I thought I couldn't make it more than 5 hours without my fix, And here I am 48 hours into my recovery, on the verge of being released from my own personal hell.

Thanks Melinda and Eric for the reply's. Talk to you soon!

Time for bed, just got out of a hot bath and feel GREAT. I am so happy! 53 hours and going strong! The excercise and hot bath water help sooo much. And I'm sure the vitamins are giving my body much needed strength also. I am having such a great turnaround. Thanks so much for the people in this forum.

Default The Money

Brian,

Dont forget the money you are saving, no more cash for pills and quitting smokes too, those things are getting more expensive than the dope at this point. If you cannot find something to do with all the money you save getting clean I will be glad to take it off your hands LOL just kidding.
Keep up the great attitude you are almost there now !!

You are at the worst of it now it looks like you are going to make it...things should start to improve soon and you will not believe the changes you will see as the fog clears up.
I know you can do it so stay strong and keep it going.

Thanks for your support...I think you were the one that said take it 10 minutes at a time...that's what I've been doing. I can do anything for 10 minutes. I am glad I got rid of the vicodin because I am beginning to feel better and my mind is beginning it's tricks....

Hello Brian, I feel much better after reading your post I myself have now been a vitamin V lover for a little over 2 years now and I really want to stop this. I am always busy and on the go with 3 little ones, so of course that lil pick me upper always helps. I have been wanting to quit cold turkey but am worried how it will affect my attitude, I do not want to take it out on anyone especially my children. I know I have control over my behavior however after reading how some people feel while wd sounds like it might get the best of us. I hope all works out for you and I will keep checking to see how you are doing Good luck!

Melinda,

How about Lorazepam (SP?) for the benzo? Will that work too? Also, I was wondering about a muscle relaxer like cyclobenzaprine? Will these help with the aches and pains and help to sleep?

On Day 6....feel much better. After almost 13 years of being clean...I went in for a root canal AND filled that script of Vicodin. How quick the monster named addiction rears it's ugly head...and how stupid of me thinking I had control. After 1 and 1/2 of using 2-4 Vicodin per day I was able to quit cold turkey (pepto bismol helped) BUT only after finding this board!! Every post meant something to me...just taking it 10 minutes at a time

Smile All Gone

It looks like you got rid of all you bad habits in one big shot, that is awsome !!
It sounds like you are done for good but do not ever let your guard down. Cravings and mental urges can still pop up without notice but it seems like the bulk of it is over for you. I am sure you feel great now just like I do, like a fog or cloud has been lifted.

Keep up the good work and stay clean...keep us posted.

I admire anyone who admits that they have a drug problem. I have been fortunate enough to never having to face this ordeal, but I have watched people I know face it. I think that is starts with that individual. I have a boyfriend who has a drug problem. He has these horriable mood swings. He is addicted to pain killers. He loves hydrocodones, Vicidon, etc etc. He will take up to six a day. Maybe more. Every single time he drives anywhere its to get more pills basically. He has no control over it. He is getting more and more addicted to them. I remember when he used to be more calm but he was taking maybe 2 or 3 of them. They make him sick and he throws up but that doesn't stop he at all. I really wished that the FDA puts a band on these pain killers. Millions of people are becoming too dependant on these pills. I feel like its ruining my life and I'm not even addicted to them. I am just in a relationship with someone who is changing before my eyes.
