    Default Suboxone with percocet

Can anyone tell me is it true that while on suboxone 4mg twice a day, taking a percocet will not have the same affects. If it's true how long do I have to be off the suboxone for the percocet to have it's normal affects?

You will not get any benefit to speak of from taking a percocet while on 8mg a day of suboxone. When you say normal effects are you needing the percocet for a medical condition, are you wanting to get high, what are you trying to do with the percocet?

Thanks for your response but here is the reason for me asking this question, a month ago I seriously injured my lower back by slipping two disc’s L4 & L5 of my Lumbar spine. I went to the ER and all they could do was give me shots, pain killer (Percocet) 10/325 and Valium. There went my sobriety. The ER also recommended me to a specialist which I did and they are performing physical therapy and every two week they give me a supply of percocet and muscle relaxers until I get better. Next month I go in for injections in my spine.
Prior to all of this, about 2 months ago I went on suboxone because I was addicted to percocet. I was on it for about two weeks and I was successful quitting.
I’m going to run out of my supply of percocet a few day’s early and I was thinking I could take the left over suboxone for a couple of days to help with the withdrawals. I just do not want to feel that feeling so that is why I asked you the question. Can you answer it for me? How long do I need to wait?

If you only take suboxone for a couple days it shouldn't have a long lasting effect. Percs probably will work pretty quick, a couple days at the most, maybe less. Good luck.

It is true. I currently take Suboxone as maintenance therapy for opiate addiction. Suboxone binds very tightly to opiate receptors, thus a good med to stay off or block effects of other opiates. The half-life for Sub is 37 hours, and it takes 6 half-lifes for a med to get out of the system, so in this case [6 x 37 hrs]. I have heard, anecdotally, that people can go three days without Sub, then get the effect of their original opiate. You are also on a lower dose of Sub; 16 mgs is the usual daily maintenance dose. Maybe, your lower dose of 4 mgs twice daily and you can return to Percocet sooner. How long have you been taking Suboxone? That's another factor. My answer is anywhere from 3-9 days, depending, otherwise the Percocet will be wasted, or you can inadvertantly OD by throwing handfuls or Percocet in, trying to get its effect. Be careful and stay healthy. ANDREW

She is only talking about taking it for a couple days. It's not going to make a lot of difference after two days.

I was on 12mg of Soboxen a day, and had you have surgery. The doctor told me to take my suboxen up to the day before surgery, and start taking the oxy the next day. So the had me taking sub. one day and the oxy the next. Hope this helps.

I have been experimenting with this. I've been on sub's for 6 years. It basically is different for every person.
I took a 8 mg sub strip yesterday at 10am. I ate 4 perk 10/325s last night at 830. And I DID indeed get high off the perks. Weird thing is I ate 5 perks when I woke up today and I haven't gotten as high as I was last night. I'm starting to wonder is the perks get me higher with a little sub. It sounds nuts but I felt great last night. Almost as if the sub and perks were having a tug of war. But again I did get throwed.
I am about to go ahead and take 4mgs of sub to see if I feel as good as last night.
I will to a follow up to let you guys know. But also again I personally feel everybody's bodys and tolerences are different so I can only speak for my own experience.
