| | Scared. Ok guys, I have to get a bunch of fillings starting november 4th. No big deal. BUT after that, I have to go get about 12 teeth pulled, and an upper and lower partial put in. I am terrified, mainly because I have had teeth problems forever and that's what started my whole pill popping crisis.....and now I will be in plenty of pain after getting multiple teeth pulled at once. Not all 12 at once, but like 5 or 6 at once. I don't know how to handle this because on top of being afraid that I will screw up my tapering process, I absolutely HATE the dentist. Any words of advice, and prayer would be greatly appreciated.

| | Gosh Heather,
Thats a tough one. My best answer is to do the best you can with non-narcotic pain meds. Give the others to Chuck and have him give them to you only when you can't take it. The good news is that tooth extraction pain is only a couple days. I imagine you will need something for those first couple days and then I think you will be ok with Motrin or whatever OTC stuff you take. I don't think it will set you too far back. Look at Robert and Melinda. They both had to deal with similar stuff. I'm sure Melinda will pop in and give you some tips when she can. Hang tough and don't freak yourself out over it. Worry is not your friend!! |

| | First I want to say im sorry you have to go through this. I too started my pill popping from having teeth extracted. You know now you selfcontrol and I agree with Freedom, you will more than likely need something stronger than OTC meds for the first few days. Is what I would do depending on how many the Doc perscribes, only fill half of the script or less, like say they give you 15-30 pills, only get 5-8 filled, most pharmacies will do a partial fill. This way you wont be as tempted to take more than you need and if you happen to need more you know you can go get a few more filled and if you have someone to hold them and give them to you only when you need them would be great.
Hope all goes well for you and good luck. |

| | Thanks guys. I hate the dentist. I really want this all to be over with. It's so aggravating. And painful. I'm way past my limit on dealing with the pain. I hope I can do this without messing things up. |

| | Heather .... Last year I had to have like four teeth pulled one day and still have to finish the other side for a partial. Dentists can pull teeth anymore and it doesn't cause that much pain. I just used Ibuprofen myself, no narcotic pain meds whatsoever. My mouth hurt a little one night but that was about it.
It hurts worse for root canals than it does to get teeth pulled. Tell your dentist what you're dealing with concerning the opiates. They will respect you and likely pull a couple less each time if you explain. Tell them to do it so that you don't need the narcotic medication and they'll help you I promise. Relax and don't freak out about this. God bless.

| | I have to get them all pulled at one time. Its all of my upper front teeth, and all of my lower back teeth. I can't keep them any longer, the infection in my mouth has statistically already taken 6 years off my life. I live in misery. I can tell them to pull only a few at a time, but then this whole process will take a loonnnggg time, and I'll still have a whole bunch of infected teeth in my mouth longer. I can't take ibuprophen because it caused me a stomach ulcer. So I may have to get ultram or something to get through this. Good thing I hate the way ultram makes me feel, so it wont be any kind of happy pill for me . I'm scared about the whole thing mainly because I hate the dentist so much. They scare the hell out of me. Too many bad experiences I guess. I have had a couple nasty dentists before. Mean, and ornery, didn't care about patients with anxiety. At least I have a nicer one now and I get to be put to sleep when they get pulled. Just worried about the pain the most, since I have so many infected teeth. Last time I got an abscess pulled while it was still painful, I couldn't function for 3 days it was horrible. OMG.

| | It's really too bad you c an't take ibuprofen. I had a miraculous experience with teeth pulled and the dentist. I hate the dentist also, almost have a phobia about it. Needed to have several teeth pulled at once. I was given either tylenol w/codeine or percocet. Took it for 2 days and then called the dentist because it really wasn't doing enough for the pain. He told me he couldnt go stronger and said to take perscription strenth motrin. I scoffed but did what he said and unbelievably, it worked like magic, better than the codiene or percocet. I don't know much about otc pain meds, but maybe naprosyn would work if you can take that? | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
