Default Recommendations from Lexapro to Wellbutrin XL

Hey guys, I was checking out this site today and felt it would be a good idea to start posting my questions and to give my personal experiences out to the public. I was on Lexapro 10mg for about 2 years. I had the aweful weight gain bug where I put on about 50 - 60 lbs in a matter of a year. I was 180-190 originally and it started downhill from there. I'm currently 250lbs and so irritated because of changing my diet, exercising and not getting any type of outcome whatsoever. I figured it was time to change to another medication for the time being to try to "help" my metabolism get back to par. My doctor thought it would be a good idea to try Wellbutrin XL 150mg once a day. The way i tampered off lexapro (only stopped taking it about 5 days ago.) was take 5mg (half the dose) for about another week and half then quit. I've been okay for the time being just a couple dizzy spells, heat flashes and sweating, until today. I started getting the major brain zaps and chest aches / pains, and tired as hell.

Enough of my story... My question is, what is the reality that wellbutrin xl will help me get my metabolism back and help lose those extra pounds i put on over the course of the lexapro?

unfortunately, wellbutrin will not be a magic diet pill. however it does work different than lexapro and you may see some changes. because the difference in the way wellbutrin works, it does have potential to inc metabolism.

the drug company (GSK) reports in the drug literature that 14% of patients taking 300mg/day of the wellbutrin XL lost >5lb. but, 5 lb is not much. the good thing is that only 3% of patients gained >5lb.

lexapro's information does not address the issue of weight gain. they step around it by stating that "clinically signicifant weight gain vs placebo was not established" but THEY defined significant so who really knows.

i think with a good diet, some exercise, and the right attitude you can make a difference. and the change just may help.

Hi,

I also wanted to share my experience with Lexipro 10mg. I took the drug for a little over 6 months. While exercising and keeping active, I have gained almost 25 lbs. So it is different for everyone. None of my clothe fit and I think its time to find a healthier alternative.

I am curious about what others out there have done to compensate for coming off Lexapro. Has anyone had any real luck with any natural supplements, accupuncture, etc. Currently, I am taking vitamin E, C and Calcium but nothing else. I have the anxiety, dizziness and sadness that others mention.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated!!!
