I was having an extremely bad panic a attack, to the point where i was passing out. I was in the er when i was hyperventlating & had passed out 3 times. they gave me a pill called "alprazolam." But instead of giving it to me orally they had me put this under my tongue. Has anyone heard of that? And what kind of miligrams do you think they have given me? It certainly had worked very well & i am feeling much better but hey had never told me any thing about this drug. Tomorrow i have an appt with my psych doc and wols like to know if i should ask for this particular med considering the past month i have had the same symptoms, but unfortunately i chose not to go to the hospital those previous times. I am wondering if this is a safe drug to take or not. Any suggestions? confused???
Alprazolam is generic xanax and the sublingual tablets are usually a 1mg dose. The xanax is administered sublingually occasionally for panic attack patients. It's normally used for patients who might be uncomfortable with swallowing it for whatever reason during a panic attack. It reaches peak concentration a little more quickly than orally so it helps some in panic situations. God bless.

I have been on this med before I believe its called niravam it comes in most of the same doses as xanax it is for VERY quick relief from panic attacks and patients unable to swallow during their panic attack
