Man guys, I am having the worst luck.... I went to mu methadone clinic to get my take homes tody and they told me that I was going to be cut off because last wekk I had a dirty urine, I took 1 xanax 1mg that has been in my medicine cabinet for ages....so in order to stay in the clinic this is my last chance, I had to sign a contract tht I wouldnt take any mood altering substances and if I have another dirty ua then I am kicked out for good, Oh I am sooo mad at myself for taking tat pill but at the time and under the cicumstances I felt it was the right thing to do, see I took it right after the police came and seized my car, I owed some money to the credit union from like a year ago from a bounced check well after they sued me and all that I went from owing 400$ to 1,000$, now they took ,y car and charhed me 500$ to do that so after they sell my car in the police auction I will be lucky if they sell it for 500$ so in the end I am going to owe them the same amount of money, so you tell me, what was the point of them taking it to begin with, it just ****s everything up g=for me, now I have no way to get to the clinic which I have to go there weekly its 250 miles round tripbut its my only option, in the meantime I have been using my bf's car ecause hes been sweet enough to let me do that, well so anyhow I took the xanax he night they took my car because I had a really bad panic attacck, so in order for me to stay in the clinic I cant drop dirty anmore, I had to get proof from the pharmacy that I have had a script for xanax before which was no problem I went to the pharmacy and had them print it out..plus I have until the end of this week to find a dr that can give me a non addictive non narcotic anxierty mediceine, but hey at least I didnt lose my treatment over it though that would have killled me!!!

The other thing that your clinic is worried about is you dying from a methadone-benzo overdose.Taking 1mg of xanax is a pretty strong dose when your not taking it everyday.It can mix with the methadone and when you go to sleep your breathing begins to slow.If it reaches breathing every 8 seconds then your in trouble and can die.Be very careful because the two mixed together is the cause of 90% of so called methadone overdoses and they usually happen just like what happened to you.You had a stressfull situation and reached for a xanax,you can't do that anymore and you have to find new ways to deal with your stress.I totally understand why you took that pill and can't really blame you for doping it but now is the time to stop and find other ways.It's just not worth dieing over and beside I've gotten used to talking to you and don't weant to see you in trouble.Hang in there....Dave

thank you dave and thank you forth the info as wll, they told me they dont go together and I could black out by miing them they never told me all that you dod, but I have ni choice but t not take them, I have until nrct tuesday to find a dr that will prescribe me something for painic attacks and anxiety that isnt a narcoticc or addictive

That's good Liz and your clinic is right.You could actually walk around or drive but be in a total black out and not remember anything.That's another reason why the two together is very dangerous.Are you addicted to the benzo's????If you are then you need to tell the clinic because you may need to go in to the hospital for benzo detox.....Dave

no dave, I am not addicted to the xanax..in fact I only just started taking them for my anxiety..and your right I dont like this mix of methadone and xanax!!! I slurr my words and dont remember things I have said and done....good thing all my xannys are gone as of tonight so I dont have to deal with this, but I do have to call around and find a dr that will see me to prescribe me something for my anxiety thats non narcotic and not addictive, I only have until tommorow by 5 pm to do it because when I go to the clinic next tuesday I have to have proof that I have set up an appointment.. its part of my contract or I losem y take homes..
but man methadone and xanax are a nasty mix!!
how much do you think you would have to take of both to od if your body is used to 80mg of methadone and used to about 1 mg xanax??? how much more before you would od?? I am not going to do it I am just curious...

That's the problem you have people that have been RXed both for years and then one night the patient decides he needs a little extra say xanax and he takes it.Goes to bed and stops breathing 3 hrs later.That's what scares methadone clinics about benzodizepines and methadone,even seasoned user can fall prying to ab accidental overdose.It just isn't worth it.If you really need to take a benzo then try and get as low as possible on your methadone.Both of them cause your respitory system to slow down so the less of the two in your system the better.Please be carefull as these two are a big problem....Dave

Hi sweetchik, I wrote you an e-mail but it came back to my e-mail address that there was a delivery faliure. So....e-mail me or get me on Yahoo and I can give you some advise/pointers on your situation. I, myself am in the same situation as you, I go to a Methadone clinic and was approved for my Zanaxs for a couple of yrs until a new Dr. came in and also alot of OD's starting occuring from Methadone & Zanax. I just recently lost my 2 wk takehomes for a positive Benzo dirty also. So, I am still on the Zanaxs for manic depression,anxiety/panic attacks,etc. and was written them from my Phsych after I started the Methadone treatment, so needless to say the Methadone does not help me with the Zanax addiction being that I got addicted to them 2 yrs after I got on MMT. It does scare the living hell out of me to take them knowing that people die all the time from the combo, but I have no other choice at this point except addmitting myself into a detox program or my local hospital to get myself off of these things. And, I did go to the Dr Ashton forum that someone had recommended you to, and it was a great forum, but he said that it would be better for a person that was trying to quit taking them to do it at home w/ a spouse monitoring you as to go to an in-patient facility and just ween yourself slowly from Zanax to Diazepam. But, the only thing is...is I do have a problem w/them now, and I am wanting to get off of them as quickly as possible before I do kill myself. I have taken them for 5 yrs now and had no problems, along w/my Methadone, but they seem like they are starting to control my life and that is WHY i am in treatment for in the 1st place, is ADDICTION!!!!! But, I also know in the back of my mind that I do need some form of medication for my manic deppresive disease and that scares the hell out of me also because I have been prescribed alot of non-narcotic meds from my Psych that have not worked in the past. The Ashton Manual is great.As you already know you need to switch to diazipam(valium) and start a weaning scheduale.Stopping benzo's cold turkey is not a good idea and is actully dangerous.Good luck to you.....Dave

you are taking a dangerous thing it may slow down your breathing. if your breathing become very slow you may die. try to avoid xanax. to avoid this try to consult any doctor and take some treatment.
