Default mental health

i have a 21yr old son who suffers from drug/alcohol phycosis.
he has become mentaly ill due to taking canabis and crack cockaine.
he is now taking 15mg Zyprexa daily but is putting on weight contsantly.
he has no contact with the outside world and also the local NHS have completley desrted him and washed their hands of him.
i am wondering if there is any point in him taking the medication due to his drug and alcohol problem, we feel that the medication is resposible for the weight gain.

I'm sorry to hear about his condition. I hate seeing people who have addled their brains with drugs, there are too many in my life.

Psychosis is exactly what the drug Zyprexa is for. It's active ingredient is a chemical called olanzapine, which is known to cause weight gain and increased appetite. He should not drink alcohol with his medication, since it will increase the occasional side effect of drowsiness that comes with olanzapine, and may cause his breathing to stop.

You should tell his doctor about his weight gain - maybe there is a different drug he can take or a certain treatment for him that will stop his weight gain. You should talk to your doctor about any other side effects.

Jesus Christ will help you through. -Betsy

My daughter who is 31 just went to the emergency room tonight feeling disoriented and having breathing problems with heart palipatations after being put on Geodone 120mga for aBOUT A WEEK. PREVIOUSLY SHE WAS ON Zyprexa 20mg for several years. She wants off the Zyprexa, because of the weight gain, but I have just read several bad stories about Geodone concerning violent behavior. She is raising a 9 year old daaughter that I had to pick up tonight at 11:00pm, because she wa
s taaken by ambulance to the emergency room with the problems I mentioned. I am wondering is 120mg a normal dose of this medication?
