Default Lotrel side effects?

About 2 months ago I took Lotrel 5/20 for 12 days for HBP. I didn't take the rest, because I kept waking up about 2:30 am with dry, dry eyes. (If I happened to rub my eye on awakening, the lid would stick to the eyeball, kind of scary.) I quit taking it about 6 weeks ago, and have been using eyedrops, since my eyes are still dry.The waking at 2:30 am has continued, and I usually can't get back to sleep, and am getting sleep deprived, somewhat depressed, and somedays don't dare drive, due to not being very alert. This began within a few days of starting Lotrel, so I suspect it is all related. I also noticed constipation problems while taking it. I thought the extremely dry eyes were waking me up.
I've been taking Ambien for a week, but it is not helping. I usually go to sleep OK, but am awake about 2:30 am. 4 hours of sleep is not enough! Are the 2 things connected? Has anyone else had continued insomnia after taking Lotrel for such a short time? What has happened, and what is the remedy?
After my 4th c-section, I had a reaction to something that sounds like 'diluted' maybe dilutan? With much swelling of lips and face, in case this has any bearing.(Also my Mom had an temporary paralysis after just 1/2 dose of Ultram.)The dr.didn't ask me about swelling before starting the Lotrel, but did send me for a kidney ultrasound, to see if there was any narrowing. Thanks for your help. Rose

Correction: the lips and face swelling badly was reaction to something after the c-section. But the bad reaction to 'dilutan?' was after a later hospitalization for removal of fibroids, and caused breathing problems, as if the automatic breathing was switched off.If a woman has had a partial hysterectomy, how does she know if menopause may be a root of the insomnia?

Update: Altho the lotrel seems to have caused the dry eyes, insomnia and constipation while I was taking it, I have learned the the BP med I was switched to (Cozaar) has insomnia as a side effect, so that must be it. I stopped taking cozaar a week ago, am now on lisinopril for BP, and had my first night of solid sleep, in over 2 months, last night. It takes awhile to go from 4 hours of sleep a night, to 7 hours.
